Proposed budget

GBP 4,773

Description

‘Yoga healing for all’ is a project aimed at supporting Newham’s vulnerable and impoverished residents by giving access to free yoga classes, in a stunning private yoga studio that are curated specifically to address mental and physical well-being. We will run 4 separate courses over the course of the year.

1) Introduction to yoga, pranayama breathing and guided meditation

2) Yoga for stress relief and anxiety reduction

3) Yoga and sound baths

4) Yoga flow for energy

Our aim is to continue to create an inclusive space where all members of the community can come together, practice yoga and make connections. ‘ Yoga healing for all’ started as a singular free Community and Beginners yoga class which supports refugees from Stratford’s hotels and clients referred to us from Newham’s Team Joy App. I began this project in January of 2023 which has run up until until now. The application for funding is necessary to sustain this class expand by providing an additional class that includes yoga and sound bath. The funding we require to provide payment for yoga teachers and the renting studio space.

The costing for studio space and teacher payment is less than the average hourly rate in London.

What is the £4773 being spent on? How many classes, and how many spaces at each class? Can only refugees referred through this Team Joy app attend, or is it "for all"? Where is the studio? Is it accessible? Did you know there are 3 other projects offering yoga? Maybe you can offer your yoga to them too.

@Jay Smith Hi Jay, the money goes towards the space hire and yoga tutors for the year. The studio accommodates up to 12 people per session and yes, everyone is welcome at the classes. We aim to create an inclusive space were all members of our community can meet and practice yoga together. The studio is in Maryland and is a purpose built yoga studio with all the necessary equipment. It is a very beautiful place to practice. I am not aware of the other projects, have they posted here?

@Emma Daly Hello Emma would still like to know how you will prioritise spaces for refugees, and how many classes over the whole project. Thank you.

@Jay Smith Hi Jay, apologies for the slow reply. Initially we will keep 5 spaces free for hard to reach groups. This will vary over the year depending on the up take. At the minute I run a free class the works on a refer all basis through the joy app and with a colleague who volunteers at refugee hostels. I have the contact numbers and/ or instagram of those that are referred to me and I contact them priori to the class to see who will be in attendance. I can then modify the spaces available on the booking app for those who want to join. In total we aim to run 43 classes across the year
