Description
This project ensures community oversight and sustained engagement during the long-delayed repair of the Woolwich Foot Tunnel's northern lift (inoperable since 2022). While Newham & Greenwich councils have agreed to fund the £360k repair, public communication remains poor. We will hire an independent coordinator to liaise with the councils and provide clear, regular updates to residents. Concurrently, we will run a community history project, gathering stories and research about the tunnel's significance. This will culminate in a "Mini Museum" display installed post-repair, celebrating the tunnel's heritage and the community's advocacy. This project benefits the community by ensuring transparency, maintaining pressure for timely repairs, improving civic engagement, and creating a lasting educational asset.
