What’s The Point (WTP) is a Home Office-sponsored 10-week, self-selecting peer-led programme to empower young people to change the culture of youth violence.
WTP meets the local Priority 1 and Priority 2. It facilitates conversation around causes of knife crime and youth violence and the consequences. WTP is a practical model to engage young people and mobilise them to be peer leaders and change-makers in their communities.
WTP encourages young people to think beyond themselves, engage with the community, arrive at their own conclusions and find solutions. The 10 weeks culminate in an assembly lead by the group to their peers and lower years, supported by us. WTP works with local community visitors from the voluntary/faith sector and emergency services to build relationships, including self-administered emergency first aid. WTP has proven to have saved a young persons life following an attack.
WTP completed a successful pilot in 2019 at LDE UTC:
“WE NEED MORE OF THIS. MORE THINGS LIKE WHATS THE POINT TO HELP US THINK ABOUT THE WAYS THINGS ARE. THEY DON’T HAVE TO BE”
We will offer WTP to 2 schools per term and develop a primary version for Year 6. FiS actively work in 3 secondary and 9 primaries in Canning Town and Custom House area.
