Wellbeing on the Move: Lathom's Learning Adventures

From "People Powered East Ham"

Go to the project

Proposed budget

GBP 20,000

Description

Our project aims to improve the mental health, wellbeing, and development of children and families in our local community through inclusive day visits to educational sites, local parks, and sports camps. These experiences are designed to enrich the school curriculum, encourage physical activity, and support emotional resilience, particularly for families who face financial or social barriers to accessing such opportunities.

Children will take part in engaging, hands-on learning outside the classroom—in museums, nature reserves, cultural venues, and sporting environments. These outings boost confidence, curiosity, and social skills while offering a break from the pressures of daily life. Being active and spending time in nature has proven benefits for reducing stress and supporting mental wellbeing.

Families are invited to attend together, helping to strengthen relationships and create positive shared memories. These experiences promote connection and communication, which are vital for long-term emotional health.

The project also supports community development by increasing use of local resources, encouraging social inclusion, and reducing isolation. We will measure impact through feedback, wellbeing tracking, attendance data, and case studies, ensuring we capture meaningful outcomes.

With funding, we can provide life-enhancing experiences that foster healthier, happier children, stronger families, and a more connected community.

This is a wonderful project that puts children’s wellbeing and family connections at the heart of learning. By opening up inclusive experiences in nature, culture, and sport, it not only supports pupils but strengthens the whole community. It’s inspiring to see such a holistic approach to resilience, inclusion, and mental health—this will have a lasting impact well beyond the classroom.

The children’s sports project will have a truly positive impact—helping kids build confidence, stay active, and develop teamwork skills. It will be wonderful to see young athletes not only grow stronger and healthier but also form friendships and a sense of community that will benefit them well beyond the playing field
