The removal of car parking spaces on High Street North, Manor Park needs to be reinstated . There are no suitable visitor parking spaces on the side streets, The Mayor in her manifesto promised free parking for a 30 mins. Redbridge offers its visitors 1 hour, This helps businesses and encourages visitor numbers, helping the local employment, businesses and regeneration of the area. A lot of businesses have suffered as a result of this unwarranted widening of the footpaths, alleged to be helpful for social distancing. The widened sections are not used by pedestrians and businesses are affected due to lack of suitable short term parking which also affects disabled persons from visiting for essential shopping. Visitors passing through High Street North do not spend time looking for parking on the side streets, for short stop to shop on High Street North. Going round the streets further contributes to increased pollution which I hope the planners have taken into account when designing these schemes, without any consultations with affected businesses.
The closure of the bridge on Browning road for traffic wishing to travel towards East Ham/ Manor Park was nothing more than a cash generating exercise. it has not in any way reduced pollution but diverted onto Romford Road. The volume of traffic speaks for itself and the slow moving traffic contributes in displacement of any pollution reduced from the Browning Road area onto Romford Road. Business permit holders operating in the East Ham and Manor Park areas, are forced to travel via Romford Road. This traffic should be permitted to cross the bridge freely. Such vehicles are resisted with Newham Council in their database of Business permits. Whatever volume is allowed to use the bridge crossing would help reduce the traffic and possibly the pollution otherwise generated in the traffic and longer route to destination.
