Unlocking Potential: Junior Rowing Access in Newham

From "People Powered Beckton & Royal Docks"

Proposed budget

GBP 18,660

Description

Globe Rowing Club’s junior programme at Royal Albert Dock is transforming the lives of young people in Newham by offering them the chance to take part in an inspiring, healthy, and inclusive sport. Demand for rowing is growing rapidly, but a shortage of boats means we are forced to turn away local children who want to join. With your support, we can purchase two new double sculls—one for training and one for competition—so that more children aged 12–18 can experience the many benefits of rowing.

This project will open the door for many more young people each year to get active, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills in a safe, supportive environment.

Rowing helps children improve their physical and mental health, make new friends, and discover new opportunities, including scholarships and future careers.

By voting for this project, you will help create a healthier, more connected community and give Newham’s young people the chance to thrive on and off the water.

The great thing about this fundraiser is that it ie sustainable. The boats bought would be in service for years, getting kids on the water.

As a parent of one of our juniors, I can see firsthand the transformative impact this the club has on our community. Globe is more than just a rowing club—it is a place where young people of all backgrounds and abilities come together to learn teamwork, discipline, and resilience both on and off the water. My son learned to row at Globe and for the first time has fallen in love with a sport, created new habits, had amazing experiences competing and making new friends. This budget would mean the club being able to extend the sport to more young people and give our existing Juniors more chances to compete and train with better equipment.

Rowing is more than just a sport, it’s a powerful tool for helping our children grow strong, confident, and connected. I’m glad that my daughter has joined Globe rowing club because it has given her confidence and positivity in her everyday life as well as helping her boost her fitness and her sense of belonging within the globe rowing community.

It's hard to overestimate the positive impact of sports on young people's lives. Supporting this project will mean that so many more children can experience not just an exciting and competitive sport, but also build an incredible community. Globe's Junior Squad has had so much success in the past, it would be great to see that continue with even more promising young athletes getting the chance to compete!

Globe is lovely community club giving opportunities to local children in East London. Through the club the junior rowers get the chance to race in regattas across the country. New equipment would really help them compete on a more equal footing, these kids deserve it!
