Trees in the High Street

From "Forest Gate & Maryland Community Assemblies 2022"

Go to the project

High streets need more greenery, pollution levels are high and this is one way of improving this. Making our public spaces more pleasant to be in and encouraging people to value them . If people enjoy being in the space they litter less and it is good for their mental health and I think creating green spaces in the concrete parts of the high street can do this.

Trees can be planted in planters above the ground in Woodgrange High street, local residents and shop keepers will get involved in maintaining them.

Last year we did this in Upton Lane and it has been really successful getting everyone involved and changing the road for the better. I am a resident in Forest Gate and the application is for £5000 for planters, soil and trees. The Budget is at follows :

3 large planters £4350 - £1450 each. with soil and plants

Two small planters for single trees £600 - £300 each

Spring Bulbs £50.

total £5000

Yes, we absolutely need more trees. Everywhere! For their immediate impact but also to replace older trees when they come to maturity.
Definitely more greenery needed around forest gate station area !
      Definitely more trees needed!!
Yes please!! Forest Gate is benefitting so much from planting initiatives. They really improve the appearance of the area, as well as having a positive effect on peoples mental health and air quality.

The planters have made the area look fresh and vibrant. The planting process was enjoyed by many people and they got to learn new skills and gain knowledge about climate and importance of green clean areas and links to mental wellbeing. Much needed for Newham residents. All the best with this proposal!
