The Potential Project 21 (TPP21) sets out to address priority number four “Health and Wellbeing - reduction in health inequalities, physical and mental health, healthy eating, food growing” with a specific focus on the mental health and physical wellbeing of fathers and young men in the Stratford and Westham community.
The project is a community initiative, aimed at reducing health inequalities with a specific focus on the physical, mental health and wellbeing of fathers and young men, by providing a safe space and place for them to receive support, share and discuss issues such as fatherhood, parenting, relationships, unemployment, returning to education/retraining and grief over the loss of love ones, to express their emotions openly among other men and expel the myth that “Men don’t Cry”.
TPP21, encourages the involvement of all fathers and young men from all sections of the community (especially those who are at risk of social exclusion through disability, mental health issues and economic deprivation) and ensures that all have equal opportunity to participate regardless of gender, religious and ethnic background, disability, or sexual preference (or any other factor that may result in discrimination, racism, and prejudice).
The project hopes that as a result of providing such support and a safe place for fathers and young men to share and confidentially discuss such matters, it would re-establish and strengthen the infrastructure of fatherhood and the social fabric within the community. Thus, empowering and providing a positive impact on young men, their families, and the community at large.
