Go to the project

Proposed budget

GBP 20,000

Description

The project is to provide two wheelchair accessible planters, a shelter from the extreme sunshine and rain, a polytunnel to grow plants from seed of which some will be sold as part of the sustainability of the project, increase the current number of fruit and vegetable planters and repair the historic Bawley prawn play boat. To hold three events to bring people together to foster relationships and forge a larger community.

The project is based around health and well-being of the residents. It is a safe supervised alcohol and smoking and vaping free environment. It brings local residents and residents from other parts of Newham together. The allotment provide organically grown fruit and vegetables. The  overall scheme provides nutritional, physical and financial benefits addressing health issues and the cost-of-living crisis for low income people. Other benefits of the garden are social interaction, interaction with nature, health benefits associated with gardening, positive impact on those suffering from isolation and loneliness, anxiety, stress and depression. It helps with the dexterity of the young, disabled and elderly. Positively impacting on the general health and well-being of individuals and the overall community.

Many thanks for all those who who have voted and commented on our proposed project. Our welcoming oasis is as a result of the team which includes Maria and Indre. Many of the allotment gardeners have also devoted time and energy to help create our valued space. Many thanks to them. Also thankyou to all those who volunteered. So very much appreciated.

My son and I love visiting the garden. We have been so many times over the summer and my son has particularly loved the tomatoes grown in the garden. He has helped to water the vegetables, enjoys running around and it’s such a lovely place for children to learn, be safe and relax. We are truly grateful for this community space. Dalila and Cairo 🤗
