The Jubilee City Farm rejuvenation project is proposed as a start of the wider rejuvenation of the existing Newham City Farm site to give those most disadvantaged by closure renewed access to the therapeutic, educational, volunteering and social benefits of a community farm.

The aim is that this project will be a first step working towards a phased reopening of a community farm with permanent animal provision once more. The aim is also to complement the work of Co-create and the Parks team whom we know are inviting public involvement to improve and restore the existing wildlife areas and bee hives.

The Jubilee City Farm project will be delivered on the existing but currently closed farm site. It will benefit the local community by bringing new life and purpose to a closed facility, recreating pride, ownership and engagement within the facility again especially for the most vulnerable members of the community who are least provided for and are proven by other City Farms to most benefit from a resource like this.

The aim would be to permit regular, time-limited access to the site, ie. One day for 2-3 hours at the weekend and, potentially, one week day according to facilitator availability. It could be coordinated by the current site caretaker and / or our project manager, with key holder access and community volunteers with a view to increasing duration, access and provision over time.

This is needed every Borough has one..... Why shouldnt we. Animals teach humans to be gentle. The need to understand the way of life of all our ancestors. Every body on the planet has an ancestor who was a farmer. I think this could also be a place for trainee vets to practice once a week to maintain the animals. Pigs help eat the rubbish and chickens and every animal God made for us as the caretakers of this world to look after. If we dont teach the children in this Borough who dont have access to even leave London to see this. We are striped of humanity towards all creatures. This needs to be made right. And i trust the mayor and council members will honor us the residents of this Borough in this request

Good luck, this is a great project. It would be great to also have the opportunity to create a home-schooled children's group, many have additional needs and nature is so essential and calming to children.

The local community should have a space to enjoy outside. A community allotment/garden space would be helpful. An outdoor cafe would be nice. And low maintenance animals would be wonderful.

I have almost 15 years experience running newham cricket club successfully. I want my grandchildren to have a local farm to visit and learn about nature. I am blessed with time and expertise to make this project a success.

What a fantastic idea. It's going to cost the council much less than letting the site go to ruin and then trying to redevelop it later. It will benefit the local community in so many ways. Not just the accessibility of the farm bit also the fact we wouldn't have yet another failed Newham project to look at. There are so many now it is getting ridiculous- Shipman centre, Will Thorn pavilion, Beckton Park cafe, farm visitor centre etc etc the list goes on. Do you not think this has an impact on the young growing up here and seeing so many council run things fail? This would be a positive step in turning that around and all the council would need to do is allow access and minimum funding to let the community do its thing. Bravo 100% support from me.

As Newham and the rest of the world reopens after the pandemic I see no reason why this site isn't being used to help this community overcome what we have been through. Its been proven that being in nature is extremely important for our mental well being. Projects like this should not be overlooked and will inject much needed fresh ideas to lift this community up, bridge the poverty gap, improve health and well being, helping the people of Newham help themselves to live a decent quality of life in a safe, secure space. We have a jewel in the crown with this site. Let's not see it go to waste. Good Luck Paul. Fantastic idea!

This is such a worthy project! There are SO many press articles discussing how high numbers of inner city children believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows or the meat they eat in burgers and sausages isn’t from a living animal…. There is genuine scientific proof of this and educating our kids has got to be first and foremost - to educate our kids on animals and farming and where meat comes from and even how too much of it is destroying the planet has got to benefit all of us. My husband is also very unwell and we sometimes spend time at our local hospice: just watching the fish there is therapeutic and calming to us with so much stress in our lives - I would love to have the farm back so we could go there and enjoy the fresh air and the calming effect animals have on our stress levels… again, scientifically proven!!!!! Great job guys and much appreciated!

A great idea. Good to see the area being used for the benefit of nature & it could help to build a community spirit. People of all age groups & backgrounds could usefully come together to get the place functioning. There could be the opportunity for people to learn new skills, grow healthy food, enjoy nature & socialise in a pleasant atmosphere. As the project develops & access is increased, it might be nice to have a refreshment area, plant & craft sales, bee-keeping, ducks & chickens. This would attract visitors to the area & bring more income. Eventually, larger farm animals could be introduced (the benefits of which have been stated elsewhere).
