Dear residents of Forest Gate and Maryland,

We the children at Colegrave Primary School are asking for your support to improve our playground! We take our mental and physical wellbeing very seriously at Colegrave, and we believe that an improved playground would have an even bigger positive impact on our school experience. We chose improvements that will give us more diverse opportunities for play and exploration.

We are asking for new equipment which will help improve our breaktime and lunchtime, by giving us a break from lessons. We would like to ask for:

- A new climbing frame which will give us more options for climbing and adventure. We already have a climbing frame but it is not big enough for everyone, so it can get a bit crowed.

- A trampoline because it can improve our jumping skills and our exercise. We believe it would help us greatly by giving us an opportunity to release energy!

- Two new huts, one for an outdoor library for quiet reading space and one for arts and crafts. All of our readers would love for a place to get to relax with their favourite book. All of our artists would love to have a space to be creative, outside of lessons.

Hello. I couldn’t get to the voting event yesterday so I’m asking the same questions what I’d ask in person as I want to know what I will actually get for my vote? Looks like youve given details which is great unlike most other projects but would like a rough breakdown. Is this playground open to everyone? If its just for the school wont the new stuff only get used by only your students and only for about 2 hour a day? Usually the PTA funds this sort of thing.

@Jay Smith Thank you so much, Jay, for your thoughtful question 🌸 I’m a parent at Colegrave, and I can honestly say the children truly deserve this playground. For almost two years, half of their play area has been closed off, leaving them with so little space to move, play, and just enjoy being children. This project will give them back that freedom a safe, joyful space where they can laugh, build confidence, and stay active. It’s more than just new equipment it’s giving our children their happiness and childhood back. The playground will also be used for community and family events outside of school hours, so it’s something that benefits everyone, not just pupils. Your support and vote really can make a difference for so many children and families 💛 Thank you for caring about our little ones and our community.

@Fauzia Bi Thank you for answering which i appreciate as i asked questions of all projects last year and hardly anyone actually answered me. So I do get why youre asking for the money but don't all schools need money for nice playgrounds and other things? I'm not against your project but think its a slippery slope if every school puts in for this PPP funding and they all get it and there's no money for any other projects if you don't have school age kids. Why is half the playground closed? Sorry to hear that.

@Jay Smith Thank you so much, Jay 🌸 I really appreciate your thoughtful message. Half of the playground was closed when the school had to improve classrooms, and sadly that space has never been restored. The children now have very little room to play, which affects both their happiness and mental wellbeing. This project isn’t about luxuries it’s about giving them back a safe, joyful space to move, laugh, and build confidence. Colegrave’s situation is a bit different because it’s about restoring what was lost, not adding extras. The PTA already does its best through small fundraisers, but this is far beyond what they can manage alone. Supporting this project will help the children and create a stronger, happier community for everyone

@Fauzia Bi Thank you again for the reply which I appreciate. I do sympathise but I just think lots of schools have had to do without due to slashed budgets and would probably all like money to restore that stuff. I know you said the whole community will benefit but really it is just this school's kids and their families as I dont think the community events you mention will be many. I think is better crowdfunded by your school's community instead of taking council money from projects that are open to all of the Forest Gate and Maryland community. The PTA doesnt need to run fundraising events it can just create a gofundme or whatever and put the link in the school newsletters and anywhere else it likes.

@Jay Smith @Jay Smith That’s your opinion, and of course everyone’s entitled to one but that could really apply to all the projects here. 😊 As a parent, I genuinely believe this funding will make a real difference for Colegrave and our children. The school truly needs and deserves this support, and I’m just hopeful we can bring some happiness back to the kids’ playground. 💛
