Small grant pots for neighbourhood Safer/Cleaner Street initiatives

From "Stratford and West Ham Community Assemblies"

Go to the project

My house is a dumping zone for rubbish (corner of Holbrook Rd and Corporation St). Some local children from the school and different neighbours have made hand made signs to discourage dumping. Over lockdown we started a neighbourhood WhatsApp group and our neighbours are really keen to work together to combat this and change attitudes of people living nearby to stop fly-tipping and support the council's enforcement of illegal rubbish dumping. Other areas might want to do a project with the local school to stop cars idling or others might want to do an activity with neighbours to get people together and tidy up the street.

Great initiative! Supporting local communities who want to get together to tackle an issue, but don’t know where to start, is a great project idea. Covers lots of potential areas, but unlocks residents own potential to decide what is important for their own environment. Maybe you could give the Community Neighbourhood team some tips as to what might have helped you to get your group set up?

Any initiative to help combat fly tipping is a good idea.

Fantastic idea. An inconsiderate few dumping their rubbish spoils the whole area for everyone, and I know many of my neighbours are keen to crack down on it.
Yes good idea. Rubbish and fly tipping is a huge problem on this street. It is a daily occurance. Lots of the local residents are keen to tackle the problem.

For me, that's a really good initiative which has to be supported.
