Description
The SHADE Community Connections project will bring meaningful improvements to the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of residents across Newham. By offering free community-led activities in safe, familiar neighbourhood spaces, we will reduce isolation, increase access to preventative health services, and promote regular participation in physical activity.
For young people, structured sports sessions like boxing and football will boost fitness, discipline, and confidence, while giving them a positive outlet. Adults and parents will benefit from stress-relief activities such as group fitness, wellbeing workshops and peer-support events. For elderly residents, weekly social events and gentle movement sessions will enhance mood, reduce loneliness, and improve quality of life.
The project will also act as a signposting hub, connecting residents with local health services and professionals through pop-up advice stalls and drop-ins. This increases awareness of resources and encourages early help-seeking behaviour.
