Grass Routes will renovate, stitch together and activate a corridor of green/open spaces within the Royal Docks ward in Newham.
The project will improve the green infrastructure of the ward/borough, enhancing biodiversity and increase access opportunities for residents to engage with nature by enhancing/creating publicly accessible green spaces for people and wildlife:
- FOOD GROWING: Community gardening, creating food growing spaces enabling local residents to learn to be more self-reliant.
• TREE PLANTING: Plant and maintain trees, which will provide shade for wildlife and fauna
• HABITATS: Improve habitats for invertebrates, birds, bugs, hedgehogs, butterflies and pollinators such as bees, creating a green corridor with a range of new habitats including hedge rows, providing wildlife corridors to find new food/water sources. We will turn grey into green creating parklets improving the area and increasing wildlife/biodiversity.
• CLEAN UP: Clean up & litterpicks in local green spaces and parks
• GREEN TRAINING: A green activities programme to support local people of all ages to access green spaces and engage with nature, providing regular learning opportunities
SUSTAINABILITY & COMPOSTING: We will utilise grey water from butts and providing composting bins. The majority of the physical improvements will be natural and therefore self-sustaining.
