Playground
From "Manor Park"
Go to the project

What: There are limited play spaces for children and young people in the vicinity of Station Road. Investigate opportunities for a playground to be introduced in the area.
- Investigate the opportunity for a playground on Manor Park or Wanstead Flats. These green spaces are outside the council's remits and owned by City of London. Talk to City of London to discuss the opportunity for them to work with residents to develop a play area on Epping Forest.
- Investigate other potential sites that could host more permanent play activities, such as the Manor Park communiy garden.
Where: TBD

I am really disturbed about using any of Wanstead Flats to build a play area. It is vital we keep as much green space, and cherish it, as is possible, supporting all the wildlife within it and the trees. Particularly if they are mature trees, as their value to the eco system is enormous. New ones, take a long time to do this job. I feel that teaching children how to explore the natural environment, playing games, and remembering games that used to be played, would be far more valuable for children, it is what I do with my own grandson. It also promotes curiosity and ingenuity, which a constructed playground doesn't. It is also very easy for constructed playgrounds to become very overcrowded, little ones, struggle for space to explore, bigger children and teenagers also want to use such spaces. It is a very delicate balance. In the current circumstances of a changing world, I think it is vital to equip children with knowledge about the natural world to help them understand it and care for it. It can also be alot of fun.

Lovely! Not only would a playground provide much needed play space for young children and families, but it would bring a boom of new business to the area. If the proposed Wanstead Flats site gets green lit, it will be important that appropriate, sustainable materials are used so that it feels part of the landscape. Greenwich Park playground is a brilliant example of this in action.

@Tom Bendix agree - should be designed sensitively to improve the area - this could help with bringing families to a part of the flats not normally visited. No ordinary park/play area.

A dedicated playground in Manor Park would be a God-send. We have numerous young families who would benefit from this. Yes, we have the glorious Wanstead Flats, but children like to make new friends and play together within an enclosed smaller safe space.

Manor Park by name, but no actual park. A playground would be a great addition to the community, even those without little ones really appreciate the energy and opportunity that this can bring to the neighborhood.

This is a desperately needed community resource. There are no amenities for families and young children in Manor Park at all. It's very sad that families have to travel outside of their local neighbourhood just for their kids to be able to have a run around and play, and also for parents to meet and form a local support network. If there was one idea I'd say was the most needed of all I'd say it was this one!

The lockdown has had a huge impact on people’s well-being and highlighted the lack of recreational facilities locally. A playground with an outdoor gym would be an amazing resource.

I live around the corner and would love to see a playground nearer to Manor Park than exists currently either on the triangle or the flats. Introducing more life to this corner of Manor Park would benefit public safety and attract people to the high street.

The green spaces owned by the city of london should not be used to build a park. I live opposite this space. This land is full of nature and wildlife. We had to look out onto a morgue during the pandemic. Now you want to force a playground on us. Those of us that live here definitely do not want a park. Newham council has plenty space to build a park.

@Janice Gill There should be a way of desiging a park for children that also keep the wildlife and nature too. The green space where the morgue there has limited ecological value - it could be improved with a bit more investment.
