Plashet Park Community Nature Trail

From "Manor Park Community Assemblies 2022"

Go to the project

The Plashet Park nature trail project aims to be a “celebration of our community”. Bringing together people from local schools, health providers like the NHS and community groups to co-create a sensitively landscaped, interactive trail that enhances the green space within the park. Increasing the activities on offer for families and adults and improving under-used areas of the park, helping local residents to get the most out of time spent outdoors and in nature.

As people move from one area of the trail to the next we aim to stimulate different senses, transporting people through different natural environments from the butterfly and bee garden, to the sensory garden to the woodland fernery. The trail will increase biodiversity and natural play through diverse planting and a variety of landscaped features which will also add visual interest. We aim to use sustainable, recycled and natural materials where possible, linking with Applecart and Patch Cafés to recycle their coffee grounds. We hope to include wild planting indigenous to the UK as well as pockets of plants found in other countries-reflecting the diversity of Newham.

Offering people “5 minutes peace” in an urban space and a chance to learn more about our environment we hope that the trail will bring our community together to share their skills and ideas. Creating support networks and reducing isolation which has resulted from the pandemic, and having a lasting impact on both physical and mental wellbeing.

People will have a chance to learn more about how looking after our environment is an important part of looking after ourselves and through co-production between Applecart Arts and local residents we will make a positive sustainable difference to our local area and longer-term the trail will become a living exhibition that celebrates the diverse cultural heritage within Newham.

We're glad to say that the early design stages of the project are underway. We've been working with Kensington Primary School Children, who have inspired us with creative ideas for the project and have taken part in visual arts, music and drama to help formulate design ideas. We're also interested to hear the views of local residents. You can let us know your views by filling out our online consultation form by following this link: https://forms.gle/dx2Y8BputS7nMdQr6
This sounds absolutely excellent, what a treat!
Great idea. Very motivated crew behind this project! Well done!
Well done from all at Face Front Inclusive Theatre and the Blu Sky Actors. We applaud your creativity.
Love the sound of this. Yay for nature activities for kids. And so lovely that there are people out there giving up their time, working hard to create this gorgeous green thing for the community. 👏🌳🌻
This is a fantastic proposal, with so much thought put into how different people can interact with the park as a green space. A really positive offering - it would be wonderful to see Plashet Park continue to develop and flourish in this way, particularly given how wonderfully the parks team are currently developing the different spaces. Exciting!
I think it is inpirtant to increase biodiversity in plashet park and there is a need to make it a more fsscinating park for families. The area around the beatiful passmore building and between the patch cafe is ripe for renewal.
                Wonderful idea
                  This is fantastic!
@Manor Park Working Group Proposal - could you provide some information on how this 20k is proposed to be spent? What is the cost breakdown? Where do we see this detail?
