Permanent Playstreet in Beckton - £5000

From "Beckton and Royal Docks Community Assemblies"

Go to the project

Permanent playstreet in Remington road / Kirkham Road and Chetwood walk, Beckton. Our idea is to make our street child-friendly and welcoming for all residents. We would like to enhance the current pedestrian area by adding some play equipment, natural materials and plants.

We aim to encourage children playing safely outdoors, contribute to their physical exercise and social skills, help them gain independence and make friends close to home. In addition, we aim to increase connection and trust between neighbours and strengthen the local community.

There are examples of permanent playstreets in other London boroughs, such as this one in Hackney. This will be the first one in Newham. We plan to install few very simple and sturdy objects in order to optimise the use of the space. These will include a sandpit with movable lid (built into ground level, could be walked on when lid is closed); built in the ground trampoline; a hammock tied to the existing trees; some logs to climb and some grass and plants.
