Proposed budget

GBP 19,800

Description

The parakeets Performance Project aims to give a voice to the adult SEND community of Newham through music, songwriting, dance and drama. Up to eighty adults with learning disabilities will benefit from the four weekly workshops which are planned to take place at Forest Lane Lodge.

Having good wheelchair access, disabled toilets, easy parking space and being a detached building makes the venue an ideal space to run a sustainable project of this type.

By working alongside other community groups, putting on shows and uploading videos to our website, we plan to build our web presence and reach more people.

The classes invite a wide range of abilities from mild learning disabilities to profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

Musical instruments, electronic and acoustic, are used in improvisational exercises. Every three months we will invite a select audience to showcase our work.

This project is about health and well being for adults with learning disabilities and carers. A collective sense of joy will emanate from the project which will send warm ripples throughout the borough.

Hello. I couldn’t get to the voting event yesterday so I’m asking the same questions what I’d ask in person – what is the money being spent on? As in a rough breakdown as I want to know what I will actually get for my vote? It says four weekly workshops, do you mean 1 weekly workshop over four weeks or workshops every four weeks and if so how many?
@Jay Smith the money will mostly be spent on hire of the room from the council over the year. It costs £130 per day. The workshops are two days a week for a whole year(minus holiday breaks) The rest of the money will go towards musical instruments/equipment and staffing costs F

@Kevin Plummer Thanks for answering as most of the other projects havent even bothered. Ok so just roughly thats 2 workshops a week for 48 weeks is £12480, is that your venue spend? I would also like to know the spend on instruments/equipment vs staffing but just rough numbers is ok.
@Jay Smith more like 40-45 weeks so less than the figure you have for venue hire. £30 per hour for faciltator fees(roughly £5000 for whole year) £2500 for musical equipment. £1000 catering for three shows/events. £1000 for filming/evaluation

@Kevin Plummer Thanks very much for the answers, it all helps. Your project is interesting and I understand that the venue costs are out of your control, but its still a very expensive project for council funds. £1k for the 3 showcase events is very high especially. What happens to the music equipment after 2026 out of interest?
@Jay Smith thank you for showing interest in the project. The 3 showcase events are a way of generating awareness of the project and ensuring that it can be sustainable after the the year long project funding is over. Adults with learning disabilities have increasingly little support after the age of 25. In my experience of working with these people I recognise that many of them are great performers and have so much to offer performing arts. It is my belief that many could go on to get some employment in this field with the right support. The musical equipment would continue to be used in the venue. It is my hope that these workshops will continue for many years
Love this project, the more opportunities for the community to engage with joy the better. Please check out my residents project, Dance for Health. We have a similar approach. I hope to meet you guys one day.
