Over the tracks - Gardening Sow & Grow Project

From "People Powered Beckton & Royal Docks"

Proposed budget

GBP 3,596

Description

project idea submitted on behalf of Mo & Tommy Parker!

Over the tracks is a gardening project - mainly a growing project to produce edible plants, herbs, fruit and vegetables. We will encourage residents of all ages & backgrounds to get involved growing and harvesting from this new community garden space.

People will be able to pick vegetables to take home as well as use them for community lunches and BBQs held in the garden.

We will aim to teach people of all ages, including young people how to grow and harvest different types of fruit, vegetables and herbs that they would usually not have access to - or can be expensive.

We will also build a new preserving station - to teach people how to make jams & preserves. Which they will also be able to take away with them.

LBN have funding for capital works on the site. This funding would be specifically to run activities in the growing space.

There will be at least 1 weekly session for children and 1 weekly session for adults

At the recent PPP meeting Newham Council confirmed that this project has been discontinued - hopefully the concept can still be taken forward under a new scheme.

@Maureen Parker Hi Mo, I know, a real shame as would have been a great facility - hopefully the idea can be brought to life somewhere else..... what surprises me the most is that the Royal Docks Team haven't been able to offer another meanwhile site in the local area - the deserted Albert Island site would seem idea! Regards, Andrew
