NourishMyNeighbourhood- Greening and gardening along the Royal Docks Waterfront

The NourishMyNeighbourhood project envisions a revitalized urban green space where the University of East London and community members come together to cultivate a shared green space along the Royal Docks waterfront.

Considering the footfall in the Dockside area with residents and locals, we want to co-create this area into vibrant social space for people to sit, relax and feel connected to nature. Crucially, this project is specifically meant to address the needs of the community like green spaces, training, community engagements, wellbeing and so on. Hence, local involvement is critical.

Phase 1 - Renewal and Renovation of existing Polytunnel and Garden Space into a Community Space by adding wheelchair-accessible paths, solar lights, adding more raised beds, and establishing a nursery or seed bank. Furthermore, provide free education and training workshops for residents around sustainability, plant care and wellbeing including co-organising events and festivals around sustainability.

Phase 2- Expansion and co-creation of green spaces along the university property by the Royal Docks waterfront. Put planters, wild meadows, climbers, seating spaces, signage, insect hotels, water refill stations and other publicly accessible amenities.

Both phases would include practical participation and collaboration with local charities/schools/community organisations, and arts enthusiasts, in design and delivery to boost skill development and civic engagement.
