Description
Newham u3a was officially established in November 2024 as an independent organisation
affiliated with the National Third Age Trust. We operate as an unregistered charity run by local
residents serving as volunteers on the Committee. Newham is the newest u3a in London
(43 in London, and over 1,000 in the UK).
Membership of Newham u3a is open to everyone in their “third age” who is not in full-time
employment (retired or semi-retired). We promote the values of lifelong learning and
the positive attributes of belonging to a u3a organisation.
Members form different Interest Groups covering a range of topics and activities. We
actively promote social interaction and participation in meaningful activities – the u3a motto
is “Live, Laugh, Learn.”
Here are some of our main activities:
- Monthly presentations on different topics
- Art Group with watercolours and sketching
- Writing for Pleasure Group
- Walking and visits to places of interest, including special guided walks
- Climate Matters Group to discuss local initiatives and global issues
- Theatre Group for outings, both local and West End matinees
- A multicultural cooking & food group
- Yoga (age-appropriate) classes including Hatha, Chair, Meditation & Pranayama
- And much more!
