A sensory garden called “Newham Narrative”, will be set up in the area district of Manor Park. Intending to use of the back area of the Jack Cornwall centre it will benefit the wider intergenerational and diverse community i.e. children’s classes from the 5 local surrounding schools, refuge groups, domestic violence groups, care groups/special-needs and the elderly from surrounding care homes.
The sensory/storytelling garden will be a green space for promoting mental well-being with the use of sound, smell and green space aesthetics.
The aim of the sensory garden will be to establish community unity and togetherness with the use of storytelling, poetry, afternoon tea, group meetings, mini herb gardening sessions cetera, sharing skills and encouraging the community to come together and enjoy a beautiful therapeutic green space.
The Manor park ward is surrounded by five local schools several old people’s homes and stay at home mums, "Newham Narrative" sensory garden intends to bridge gaps promoting well-being, equality and community togetherness.
With Gardening being a universal language, it can be done by anyone, encouraging photography projects with exhibitions, storytellers and discussion, non bake healthy snack sessions suitable for all ages and also non intrusive but highly effective forms of art therapy and such.
