GBP 9,835

Description

Motive Social is an inclusive, impact-driven, Community Interest Company (CIC) that was established in 2024 to motivate, support and encourage marginalised groups to increase their real-life social interactions. We achieve this through the facilitation of a diverse range of monthly events, activities and outings.

Ultimately, we're on a mission to reduce loneliness, minimise isolation and improve wellbeing. Our overarching goal is to identify the various barriers that exist which prevent people from thriving socially and provide engaging, actionable solutions to them.

Having facilitated a community social event, activity or outing every single month since June 2024, talking directly to members and reviewing post-feedback questionnaires, I have identified a number of barriers that are preventing people from thriving socially.

I am applying for this grant to fund an engaging, interactive and results-driven learning and development programme of workshops, to address these barriers with actionable solutions.

Motive Social Elevate is focused on education, upskilling and equipping individuals with the tools and resources they need to live healthy, active, fulfilling and rewarding social lives, thus reducing loneliness, minimising isolation and enhancing wellbeing.

The project aims to deliver a diverse range of monthly interactive workshops, covering different themes, over a 12 month period. Each of the workshops will focus on a different theme / topic that has been identified as an area that if left unaddressed, often leads to isolation, alienation, separation and loneliness.

Some of these themes include:

-      Finance

-      Confidence

-      Employment

-      Accessibility

-      Grief

…to name a few.

A huge driver behind this project idea is my desire to help and support those groups of people that would love to be sociable, but don’t know where to start, who to turn to and how to put themselves in a position where having an active social life is no longer just a figment of their imagination...and show them that they can ELEVATE!

Please check out and follow @motivesocialofficial on Instagram and TikTok to see the sort of stuff we get up to and stay in the loop :)

Motive Social is more like Family to me now, it’s a community that everyone is loved, involved, heard and mostly importantly support each other in anyway possible! Personally I’m the shy introvert type of person but this group has helped me come out of my comfort zone and talk confidently in public and I’ve been inviting some of my work colleagues to our Monthly Motives. This is what I call an Effective Community. Thanks MoSo🩷

Hello. I couldn’t get to the voting event yesterday so I’m asking the same questions what I’d ask in person – what is the money being spent on? As in a rough breakdown as I want to know what I will actually get for my vote? Looked at your links, seems like you charge members £40 each event? Where is it happening?

Hello Jay Smith, thank you for your comment requesting further information to assist you in the voting process. To clarify, Motive Social does not charge attendees £40 for each event and both our website and Instagram is clearly indicative of this. As you will see, historically, the cost of each monthly event varies significantly. I personally negotiate exclusive member discounts for each event and ALL the money that members pay goes directly to the venues, not Motive Social, therefore we do not charge any fees and membership is free. For example, the £40 Afrobeats Brunch you're referring to that we attended in October 2025, is valued at £65 (can be varied on their website). Our members were able to access this event for £40. November 2025's event at Quiz Room on the otherhand is valued at £30 and members are accessing this for £20. This can also be verified. Ultimately, at present Motive Social is completely self-funded and although members pay a reduced cost to the venues in order to attend events, activities and outings, i am solely responsible for ALL Motive Social's current operating / running costs. To date, we have never received any public funding. In terms of what we'll be using this particular funding for, as you'll see, the project overview above highlights that we will be running an interactive and diverse range of monthly learning and development workshops to tackle loneliness, isolation and displacement, over a 12 month period. All of which require an array of tools, resources and equipment to facilitate efficiently and professionally. The London Borough of Newham has been provided with detailed breakdown of our proposed budget and subsequently Motive Social was successfully shortlisted and progressed to the second stage of the funding process. Should you require more information on the exact particulars of our budget, you will need to contact The London Borough of Newham directly, with a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. If you'd like to learn more about how Motive Social has been successfully tackling loneliness, isolation and displacement since June 2024, please visit www.motivesocial.org or you can check out @motivesocialofficial on Instagram and TikTok. I hope you've found this information useful and you're fully equipped to vote for the causes that resonate with you the most. Many thanks, Vanessa Motive Social Founder

@Vanessa T Thank you for responding and clearing up the £40 fee but no I dont think your website and instagram make this clear, if it did I wouldnt have asked. Ive asked the same questions of every project and the ones who are bothering to respond at all are giving me their figures no problem. Theyre being transparent which you have to do when its council money. I dont think its right for you tell me I have to go to newham council and do a FOI, thats completely ridiculous and heavyhanded and not very community minded at all. The council have told us this is a participatory community engagement scheme and that projects should engage with residents and answer fair questions. This is my council's money which the council is asking me to vote on where its going and if youre happy about your spend you should have no reason to withhold it from Newham residents like myself you are asking to vote for you. So lets start again. I wasnt asking for a line by line. I just wanted headline figures for categories of things like venue costs vs staff costs vs materials (tools/resources/equipment) costs vs admin/overheads costs vs project management costs. So just 5 rough numbers. But now I think it would be better if you copied over your budget answer from your application form please. I would also like to confirm if when you say you will use the funding on monthly workshops that means you will be providing 12 events.

Motive Social is a platform created to bring people together and out of their comfort zone. It offers support to people, networking opportunities and engaging social events to help people affected by loneliness and isolation. Motive Social deserves funding and sponsorship from the government as i have seen that it has made a great impact on all the members lives. The founder has worked so hard and tirelessly bringing people together. The members are so happy and impressed that they always can’t wait for the next event activity to meet up. They really enjoy being a member of this platform. The founder has a vision, is fulfilling her purpose, and is determined to make a rewarding and successful platform to be recognised worldwide. Wishing my daughter Vanessa the very best and a fruitful, successful year ahead.

Motive social is a great group where you can meet new people from all walks of life, be yourself and socialise. All the members are welcoming, warm and fun to be around. It’s definitely good for your mental health and in this day and age we need that safe place where we can just chill and have fun. Life is so busy and people are always rushing around and overworking so this group is great to help you relax and laugh. Vanessa has done a fantastic job setting this all up and has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure she can support the wellbeing of others. Vanessa always gives 100% in whatever she does and takes this group very seriously & is doing this all out of the goodness of her heart. I really do hope this group continues.

Motive Social has been far more than just a series of events for me it has been a form of therapy that supported my healing process and personal growth. The sessions created a safe and welcoming space, offering practical tools to rebuild confidence, strengthen social connections, and navigate challenges. Through this community, I’ve been able to come out of my shell, process difficult emotions, and build meaningful relationships.

Motive Social is more than just a monthly meet-up it is a community built to combat loneliness and create meaningful connections. Each month, the group comes together for different activities, from sports days and indoor football to shooting ranges, meals out, and other social events. The variety ensures that there is something for everyone, bringing people together in fun, relaxed, and engaging ways. Being introduced to Motive Social has been a truly positive experience for me. It has given me the chance to meet people from different walks of life, to bond over shared interests, and to develop new friendships that I may not have found otherwise. At a time when loneliness is increasingly common, Motive Social provides a much-needed space where people feel welcome, included, and part of something bigger. This sense of belonging and community has had a lasting impact not only in helping me connect with others, but also in building confidence, creating joy, and strengthening the support networks that are so vital for wellbeing. Motive Social is making a real difference, one gathering at a time. Motive Social isn’t just a group it’s a place where I feel supported, included, and reminded that I’m not alone. They truly deserve the funding they are requesting, because it will enable them to keep growing and reaching even more people who might otherwise be very lonely and isolated.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of attending several Motive Social events, and I can confidently say they’ve had a significant and lasting impact on my personal wellbeing. Each session has provided not only a welcoming space to meet new people but also real, practical tools to navigate some of the challenges many of us fac, especially around confidence, social connection, and personal growth. What makes Motive Social truly stand out is its ability to bring together people from all walks of life and make everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. The sense of community it fosters is genuine and rare. These events have helped me come out of my shell, engage more confidently in group settings, and build meaningful relationships that have extended beyond the sessions themselves. I strongly believe that the proposed Motive Social Elevate programme will be a huge benefit to the wider community. By focusing on key areas like confidence-building, financial literacy, employment skills, accessibility, and managing grief, this project doesn’t just offer support, it offers transformation. It empowers individuals to not just survive socially, but to truly thrive. In a time where loneliness and isolation are rising across all age groups, initiatives like this are essential. They not only tackle the symptoms but also address the root causes in a thoughtful, proactive, and inclusive way. I wholeheartedly support this funding application. With your support, Motive Social can continue to expand its reach and impact, helping even more people reconnect with themselves, each other, and their community.

Motive Socials has been an amazing initiative. I've met nice individuals, learnt from them, and definitely had an amazing time socialising with them. It's a nice group of people because I've recommended the group to some of my friends who needed a community like this and they've all had lovely things to say and are currently part of the group. Well done Vanessa and team 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
