Description

Our project promotes health and well-being due to its collaborative nature where people of the community come together to utilise their skills and creativity. Since we are open to all members of the community, many elderly and adults with need join us to enjoy their time with arts and craft which helps with improving social care. These classes give a chance for people to come together and enjoy the company of others, preventing loneliness and isolation.

The members of this project have built lasting friendships so every session is filled with laughter and creativity. The satisfaction of what is created and the company it’s done with is soothing to the mind and helps uplift mental well-being. Engaging in projects like this improves mental health as your mind is occupied with things that you enjoy, which encourages healthy ageing. Community participation is also something this project encourages; a lot of the work this group does is to help out other members of the community. For example, one of the tasks we did was to create a banner for Newham’s 60th anniversary.

Working on these projects gives the members a sense of belongingness as their skills are being put to use to give back to their community. Our group consists of people from different backgrounds, promoting cultural exchange and interfaith dialogue, so the project creates opportunities for people to connect, share experiences, and collaborate towards common goals. This project strongly aligns with what East Ham believes is a priority for our community.
