Manor Park Cycles

From "Manor Park"

Go to the project

What: Support local trips to Forest Gate town centre by bicycle, enhancing the upcoming Low Traffic Neighbourhood Scheme (Area 5&6) taking place.

  • In the short term, introduce bike locks for temporary bike parking on Station Road, High Street North and Romford Road.
  • Investigate the potential to create scooter and small bike parking at local schools.
  • Incorporate residential secure storage on residential side streets, based on demand.
  • Improve cycling signage on Station Road, High Street North and Romford Road to connect to existing cycling network.
  • In the longer term, investigate the possibility of introducing protected cycling lanes on Station Road and High Street North, wherever possible. For cycling connections between North and South, cooperation with Redbridge council will be necessary.

Where: Along Station Rd, parts of Romford Rd and High Street North, adjacent streets

I am an experienced cyclist and I try and avoid Romford road where ever possible. Polluted, fast and busy. If I go on it - I stay on the footpath where possible! Minor roads are fine but often very badly maintained - so many pot-holes. these can be dangerous, or at least uncomfortable and slows you down.

There should also be more residents' bike storage on residential streets for people who don't have space for a bike indoors

proper kerbed segregated cycling paths around Wanstead Flats would be a brilliant addition. Safe riding paths for children and adults

Agree proper cycle lanes are needed in Station Road/High Street South and Romford Rd. In the meantime the area desperately needs regular enforcement of parking rules and speed limits. Pavement parking especially is endemic. Low traffic neighbourhoods are needed south of the Romford Rd as well as north of it.

protected cycling lanes would be great. I am a cyclist but would be very circumspect about cycling on Romford Road.

We have the Olympic park and yet we don't have a sporting/health/fitness legacy. Proper segregated kerbed cycle lanes throughout the whole of Newham would be a perfect legacy. I by no means am not a cyclist but with safer roads I would definitely take it up with my kids.

The "cycle" lane at the Ilford end of Romford Road is a total joke. No continuity at all. Just useless. I'd like to see more investment into proper segregated cycle lanes into all shopping areas around here.

@Shareefur Haque I agree - proper cycle lane provision throughout Newham in fact! The kids in Newham would love to cycle to. school. The adults might be tempted to cycle, if the routes were safer and more pleasant. Newham is one of the flattest boroughs in London.... so what is stopping the council? Be bold and think ahead!!

We definitely need 20 mph speed restrictions throughout Newham, to reduce the terrible road casualty figures in the borough. In the past five years we have had 5,306 people reported killed or injured on our streets, including 45 children. No casualty is acceptable,. This is the least Newham can do to reduce these terrible figures. The council could implement these measures straight away and stop our roads being used like a race track.. Newham should also introduce good quality segregated cycle lanes the length of Romford Road, and remove the dangerous pinch points that are such a hazard to people who want to cycle.

Secure storages are needed,. My brand new bike was stolen in front of the train station only after two days of riding.
