Manage traffic & Enable Active Travel

From "Manor Park"

Go to the project

What: Investigate feasible ways to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists along Station Road and adjacent streets. A series of Low Traffic Neighbourhood Schemes are planned for the North of the borough, which will also support this idea. Additional ways to support pedestrians and cyclists in the area to be considered are:

  • Work with enforcement to ensure that the 20 mph limit is followed by people driving on Station Road.
  • Roads adjacent to Station Rd to be set as a Home Zone: speed limit at 20 mph or less, cyclists & pedestrians are prioritised, more greenery and planter boxes for temporary road closures.
  • During weekends, Station Road could turn into a bus and cycle priority road.

Where: Station Rd, adjacent residential streets

I think this intervention would work well and have a positive effect on the area, As a pedestrian and cyclist in romford road the experience generally negative, I fully understand it's a key road out of london, however it's wide and has huge potential to beome a green avenue with modern landscape design and beome focused on residents and less on the cars. the Increase Safety on Romford Road and this idea has some cross over and I think both should be taken forward to make them work as I don't think they will work individually.
Its fine to get rid of parking bays but what about disabled and elderly drivers who need to go to the sorting office to collect parcels and do shopping in that area. Its not easy for these people to access the area as it is.
Enforcement of speed limits and parking restrictions is desperately needed in the area. Newham Council missed a trick by not putting in a cycle lane as part of the Crossrail environmental improvements. Roads east of Station Rd would benefit by becoming low traffic neighbourhoods.

20mph limit would save lives and the area being prioritised for cyclists and pedestrians would improve it.

Also remove all parking bays located on pavements like those ones in Shrewsbury Road. It's disgrace that we need to deal with this kind of antihuman, ableist obstacles for safe walking in our Borough.

These roads are being used as a racetrack on weekend nights. By fast cars. Manor park, Forest gate through Wanstead. No matter how often I report this nothing is done.

Although this would be welcomed on its own it is not something I would vote for as I live in South Manor Park so would need this project to include linking safe cycling access to high street north and South Manor Park

Newham should be made entirely 20mph like a lot of London boroughs. Romford Road should be made a red route, removal all of the parking spaces, remove the bus lane, widen the carriageway to accommodate a proper segregated cycle lane. Keep traffic moving and reduce congestion. Try and stop all of those vehicles parking on the pavements and driving over it to park their cars in front of shops.

@Myles Harrington You've got it spot on with this comment!
@Myles Harrington I agree with all of your ideas!
Speed limit is nearly not kept to about 80% of the time It’s of no use if not enforced

I support enforcing the posted 20mph limit, and would support extending that into the adjacent roads including manor park village area.
