Go to the project
My project addresses 2 of the local priorities. Social inclusion bringing together residents and students to help them mend alter and upcycle items from their own wardrobes. Interest in this kind of craft has increased greatly since upcycling projects have been included on the Great British Sewing Bee. Anyone from Newham who is interested in building a few new skills or using old ones to save money , improve their clothing's fit, and appearance and at the same time addressing the second local priority of reusing items and reducing landfill, can attend.
I will hold workshops in the heart of my community in All Saints West Ham. I will provide basic haberdashery and tools- plus 3 or 4 machines which attendees can use- which removes the barriers from being able to effectively mend or alter an item of clothing.
I have over 30 years of experience making clothes, mending and altering them, and I would like to give back to the community I have lived in , again, for over 30 years.
