Description

Local Lifesavers: Young People Protecting Our Community

Imagine living in a neighbourhood where more young people know how to save a life. Local Lifesavers trains Newham’s young people (16+) in first aid, psychological first aid, water safety, lifeguarding, and rescue skills—giving them the tools to keep friends, family, and neighbours safe.

By voting for Local Lifesavers, you are:

  • Making our streets and public spaces safer – with more trained first responders in the community, ready to help in emergencies while waiting for professional services.
  • Protecting young people – giving them skills, qualifications, and confidence that improve their mental health and open doors to careers in emergency and humanitarian services.
  • Keeping our waterways safe – raising awareness of the dangers of cold-water shock in the Royal Docks and Thames.
  • Building stronger communities – young people become role models, sharing their knowledge and looking out for others.

Your vote helps create a safer, healthier, and more resilient Newham, where young people step up to protect the community and inspire the next generation.

Great Project ! Such an important life skill. Will all local young people be able to book onto sessions or are you delivering the to young people attending certain groups only ? Will attendees gain a recognised accredited qualification that the can put on their CV's to help with gaining employment ?

HI@TakingBack YourPower Anyone who is 16+ can apply for the programme. It will be limited to the number of places available and allocated on a first come first served basis. for the first aid they will get a 3 year first aid at work qualification, which when included on a CV, participants should be able to earn a slightly higher wage if they are the designated 'first Aider' Hope that helps?
