Keep Calm and Carry Yarn

From "People Powered East Ham"

Proposed budget

GBP 500

Description

I will be running free knitting sessions in East Ham for all ages and abilities, to encourage young and old people to create a knitting community within the local area. I’ve been knitting since I was 5 years old, and have just graduated from university in Cambridge, where I was running a similar group. I will be running monthly get-togethers for anyone who loves knitting, or wants to learn, where we chat and share skills and progress. Knitting has proven health and well-being benefits for all ages and so, even if it is associated more with older people, I’d like to use this group as an opportunity for young people to meet others in their community and for generations to learn together. I want to tackle loneliness in both young and old in East Ham, as well as providing a fun way to reduce stress and anxiety. I will use the funding to provide free materials for members to take home, hot drinks and snacks, and advertisement for the sessions. I am hoping to hold the sessions at Red Door Studios on Masterman Road.
