Go to the project

IROKO Theatre Company has been active in Newham for some twenty-four years and some of the residents know us well. Now that Covid-19 restrictions are slowly being lifted, we want to bring in a breath of fresh air and help everyone to get back to some form of normality, using creative means to enhance people’s health and wellbeing.
IROKO ‘Joyful Breeze’ project will help to address the mental and physical wellbeing issues that Newham residents have experienced as a result of the pandemic. For example, throughout the lockdowns, children and young people have experienced stress due to lack of social interactions, while some older people have experienced loneliness, isolation and depression.
Based in Stratford Library, ‘Joyful Breeze’ will offer inter-generational activities involving fortnightly music-making, gentle movement and oral storytelling workshops, plus 6 monthly sessions of mindfulness and wellness exercises for six months. Refreshments will be provided, to give time for the community to start to interact once again!
If you have been to an IROKO workshop before you will know it is fun and if you haven’t, please give us a try. Now more than ever, we all need some fun in our lives!
