Intergenerational Filming & Photography project to create a film & portaits

From "Forest Gate & Maryland Community Assemblies 2022"

Go to the project

We propose to deliver photography and filming workshops to take place in Forest Gate Library and Forest Gate Youth Zone, in which the young generation of Forest Gate residents will reproduce photos and create new images resulting in a community portfolio that will be cherished and coveted by generations to come of the older age and younger generation of Forest Gate celebrating the rich diversity and tangible cultural heritage that resides in Forest Gate. The whole process will be documented on film. The final portraits will be displayed in an exhibition in Newham town hall, and the documentary film is to be premiered at Forest gate youth zone and The London Stadium. The workshops and training will take place weekly over six months at Forest Gate Youth Zone in a collaboration between residents. The final portraits will be accepted within various locations in Forest gate with a keen effort to capture residents in the natural environments Forest gate possess, celebrating and capturing the nature and biodiversity of Forest Gate. We aim to place the portraits on disused buildings and infrastructure to uplift public spaces and, in the whole process, create community cohesion whilst building resilience to the existing barriers faced, repairing structures and relationships within the community and the relationships of the spaces within Forest gate and educating upskilling and improving the health and wellbeing of Forest Gate residents.

This will be an amazing project run by great community leaders. This is just what the area needs, bringing many benefits for all generations living within the area. I’d champion the programme a million times over especially because it is led by homegrown people of Forest Gate

@JR Josephs Precisely that as an organisation our roots are in Forest gate we care for our community and want the beauty of its people and their experiences to be seen heard and respected. our Elders and youth have contributed to this wonderful community we have and this is the project to showcase that in a project that will benefit the evolving community for generations to come.

@Emmanuel Ebokosia Thank you, Emmanuel. We appreciate you watching the podcast; London is all too forgetful sometimes of the brilliance of youth and the importance of its Elders. We want to bring this back into focus within our vision for world in which we all celebrate the power to change.
I really love this idea, often time young people are not represented their true light. This new project can really revamp the Forest Gate area, love this!
