Romford road is fortunate to be pretty wide on both sides of the road - plenty of space for segregated cycle way and more tree planting - This would protect pedestrians and cyclists from dangerous driving (not easy to solve) and make this road feel safer. Slower traffic, more mixed retail (cafe's, restuarants) could help slow traffic - bit like lower clapton road in Hackney.

I worry about people speeding and going through red lights in their cars - I have seen this happen numerous times towards the Tesco/Little Ilford end.
It concerns me that the road is not safe for cyclists - I think dedicated cycle lanes would improve the area massively.
I am pleased you are thinking about the safety of women and would support any initiative to make women feel safer on our streets.

Much safety was removed when the railings were removed around the main junction, on the basis of decluttering. However, it was mentioned later by a Newham employee that this was a mistake, and it really is. So often when trying to cross the road, there is absolutely no protection for pedestrians. It is vital that these railings are reinstated, both for safety and also to redefine spaces, creating the possibility of a market on the wide pavements close to the library. This is a really communal space, and would serve more of Manor Park well. The other point is that railings can be beautiful, artist designed, creative, and really worth looking at. A thing of beauty, not just a barrier.

I think Romford Road is in a desperate need of an overhaul - it has huge potential. I would address the dangerous speedy driving, particulary bad from Tesco down towards Illford.
consider the following action:
car traffic calming
Dedicated cycle lanes - The road and pavements are wide enough and would work really well unlike some other areas in london.
Better lighting
Shops fronts without cars parked up outside - so it's focused on pedestrian experience and not parking area. It creates dangerous randon movement of cars on pavements.

Romford Road is a disgrace, especially the Manor Park to Ilford stretch. The pavements and shop front areas need a complete overhaul. I hate having to walk along there, which is a shame as it is a 'nice' walking distance from Manor Park broadway to Ilford. The pavement is filthy and littered.
The shop fronts are a complete mess and look dreadful. The car businesses have no regard for pedestrians making it dangerous walking along the pavement when vans and cars are pulling in and out.
The road is always congested and the Manor Park broadway junction is dangerous especially when walking our children to and from school.
The street dwellers and begging is a big problem around the broadway junction too.

Romford road feels extremely unsafe coming home from work at night, drivers have no care for pedestrians (especially on the rabbits road junction where I have nearly been run over countless times) and there are prostitutes dotted along corners.

Cycle provision is required along the Romford Rd and enforcement of parking restrictions and an enforced 20 mph speed limit.

Newham Council could make small changes which could immediately improve the congestion between High Street North and Rabbits road, they could make it double yellow lines the same as between rabbits road and the north circular. Individuals double park over parking bays and businesses parking their delivery lorries loading all day, this causes congestion.
I also agree that segregated cycle lanes need to be urgent installed. Currently Newham Council allows individuals to park in cycle lanes which is dangerous and not acceptable.
I doubt this will be listened to! But just having my say!

Romford Road does not feel safe, especially at night, so would welcome this initiative
