Inclusion, access & engagement in Rainbow Community Gardens 🌈

From "People Powered East Ham"

Proposed budget

GBP 20,000

Description

Help the community in Rainbow Gardens that has grown (thanks to previous Community Assembly funding) create new pathways and renew the concrete so we can be fully accessible and inclusive space. The ground is crumbling and uneven which means we have to rope off unsafe areas before we can open to the community. A new concrete base would mean we could be fully open and could accommodate wheelchair users in our community gardening sessions.

Congratulations on getting your project accepted, transforming an eyesore into a sight for sore eyes! Good luck with the Parks Team!
I would have possibly voted for this project, but replacing old concrete with new concrete is not at all sustainable. Pathways around the outside for accessibility would be one thing, but the whole thing doesn't have to be concrete.
@Stewart Smith Thanks for your message. It’s a really fair question. We are a community garden so we would agree more concrete isn’t the answer but currently this surface isn’t functional . We would carefully landscape the new surface to include planting, trees, green wall and pathways that will allow wheelchairs and buggies safe access to all areas of the garden. The whole space may not be concrete but does need replacing to allow the community full use of this space, which isn’t currently possible. We have big plans for the whole project but it all relies on the surface being sorted out first
        Providing more accessibility is fantastic
A brilliant community garden with so much more potential with funding.
This would be amazing and enjoyed by so many of the community!
