Create planting - alongside highway improvements -e.g. SuDS
Consider a postcode Gardener (like Homerton funded by Friends of the Earth) to help local residents/businesses look after street planting.
Make use of downpipes from buildings to feed planters - thus avoiding time/cost of irrigation.
Make sure planting as ecological value. Lots of birds use Wandsted flats and will come further south if habitat present. We are lucky to have this resource - lets celebrate it.

when the railings around the main junction were in place there were those planter boxes over the top of them, making the whole junction very vibrant. It was really sad and unfortunate when they were removed, however they were kept in other areas of the borough. I am wary of too many planters suddenly appearing. For many ,Wanstead is a model they like to follow, but this isn't Wanstead, it has other needs, a different population, and what has happened in Wanstead happened over a considerable number of years, a bit at a time, beginning with the senior citizens garden. I think the reinstatement of beautiful artist designed railings at the junction would be really transformative., with cascading plants hanging over them, and it would make an enormous difference. It is important that the junction which serves the east west and north south routes, connecting up the borough, is stylish and alive, to give it some stature, some real meaning as a centre.

100%. Of all the quick wins, this is the easiest fix and meets the #1 priority from the engagement survey. We have an active community of volunteers who are eager to get their hands dirty. The council simply needs to provide the green light. Ongoing maintenance will be cared for by local residents. Manor Park Village have proven the model works. Instant, low cost impact.

This idea would make such a positive impact to our high streets! It would help to prevent cars parking on the pavement, skips being left on the pavement for months at a time, the highstreet would be a pleasant place to be - both for residents and for businesses looking to set up shop! I'm sure there would be no shortage of volunteers to help with the maintenance and upkeep. It would be a great way for residents to connect with their neighborhood and each other

The junction of Romford Road and High Street North is grim. Not only does it have the spectre of the empty and neglected Earl of Essex looming over it, the junction is daunting for pedestrians and riddled with potholes. Some plant life and colour would help the look of the place although there are more fundamental problems that need to be dealt with

Great idea. Would make Romford road less of an unpleasant road and planting in other areas creates community cohesion.

Could the planting include some plants to support wildlife - eg nectar plants for bees and butterflies, berries and seeds for birds ? Also plants with scented flowers or leaves.

One of the best things about Manor Park is that unlike so many other parts of the city, trees and greenery in public spaces haven’t been decimated. Introducing more greenery, contributing to positive experiences for young people and community classes is a really great idea.

So important. The long stretched of grey and concrete along with with rather ugly and haphazard shop fronts do not make for an attractive high street, which at the end of the day will have a detriment to businesses.
Adding lots of lush green is an easy and rather inexpensive way of making the high street far more inviting.
