Our activities will support the priorities to invest in Green Spaces, Community Safety & Cleaner Environment. We know that many of the residents do not have access to gardens and green spaces, therefore we have designed this programme to address that and make spaces and places in Green St feel more welcoming and safe through the opportunity to participate in creative and cultural programming that meets their needs and interests.
Living Wall at the back of the Hamara Ghar:
The design and building of a "living wall" at the back of the Hamara Ghar. We have found that the price of steel and labour has increased exponentially and will be seeking other quotes including some local businesses. We have had an architect design the cage like box that will then allow fence climbing planters to grow. We will be liaising with landscape architects soon to understand which type of planters would work in that environment as it is often dark and overshadowed. If we are unable to fundraise against this further, we hope to also commission a local artist to paint a colour mural at the back of the Hamara Ghar.
Urban Gardening workshops:
We delivered plant pot painting and decorating to 238 local residents, and distributed over 350 cards called Herbs for Happiness which gave information on the benefits of fresh herbs for cooking and wellness. Alongside these cards we handed out packets of herb seeds, with a choice of 8 different varieties. These workshops were delivered at the Newham Unlocked festival in Green St, Queens Market and Queens Square on 16th October 2021. We also had two volunteers support our artist educator and work with the community.
