GG Girls: Glow and Grow Girls Club is a youth empowerment project for girls aged 11–16 living in Newham.
The club creates a safe, inspiring, and creative space for girls to build confidence, friendships, and life skills through workshops, mentoring, and fun community experiences.
Sessions run every two weeks on Saturdays across the Forest Gate, Maryland, and Olympic Park areas. Each session focuses on creativity, confidence, and wellbeing — including activities like art, journaling, cooking, team building, and real-life mentoring talks.
Funding will be used for:
Venue hire and workshop materials
Healthy snacks and refreshments
Creative facilitators and guest mentors
Trips, experiences, and celebration events
GG Girls starter kits (hoodies, journals, and badges)
We want every girl to feel included, so while we encourage purchasing a GG Girls hoodie (our club uniform), we’ll also ensure there’s a community fund to support those who can’t afford one — no one will ever miss out because of cost.
Our goal is to help local girls glow with confidence and grow into strong, kind, and capable young women.

Hello. I couldn’t get to the voting event today so I’m asking the same questions what I’d ask in person – what is the money being spent on? As in a rough breakdown as I want to know what I will actually get for my vote? Where is it happening?

The money will be spent on booking creative practitioners to run workshops and activities with the girls, as well as covering costs for venues, materials, snacks, and trips.
Sessions will be taking place in the Forest Gate, Maryland, and Olympic Park areas.
It’s all about creating a fun, empowering, and supportive space for local girls to grow in confidence and learn new skills.

@Glennette Bowles-Dove Thanks for answering. Where in Forest Gate, Maryland and Olympic Park will they be taking place? I'm interested to know which venues you are considering in terms of accessibility, and how much (a number figure) of the budget is allocated to venue hire.

@Jay Smith Hi Jay Smith, we plan to use either Magpie Lodge or a workshop room at the London School of Fashion in the Olympic Park. As we are a small group, there has been some offer of 'in kind' hire as community payback. We have allocated approximately 30% of the funds which is a £1500 to venue hire, but we are hopeful that we will not use this amount as we would like to allocate the majority of our allocation to the delivery of activities and events for our participants. We plan to run bi monthly, full day sessions on Saturdays ( every other Saturday)

Hi Helen — thanks for your questions! We’re applying for £5,000 in funding. If you’re asking about participant costs — the sessions themselves are free, but we ask that those who can contribute purchase a GG Girls hoodie (our club uniform) and help with trip costs when we go on special outings. We’ll also have a pot set aside to support families who can’t afford a hoodie, so every girl feels included. Sessions will take place in Forest Gate, Maryland, and Olympic Park, running every two weeks on Saturdays. After every 3–4 sessions, we plan to take the girls on a larger trip or experience. Activities include art, creative workshops, cooking, journaling, wellbeing sessions, leadership games, and community projects — all led by a mix of trained facilitators, mentors, and volunteers.
