Nature and Biodiversity Outreach Scheme for Children
Many children in Forest Gate and Maryland do not have the opportunity to access and experience nature in a meaningful and fun way. This is a crucial element of their learning, as it helps to open up their creativity and understand how they fit into the world around them.
As a passionate, freelance Forest School teacher, I propose to deliver a program of free outdoor activities, resources and training, targeting children and their families and focusing on nature and biodiversity.
I will approach already established charitable organisations, community gardens, libraries and schools. Through our collaboration, I hope to encourage a greater understanding and appreciation for nature, which will also support the health and wellbeing of all involved. Throughout the process I will ensure that the resources are aimed at the families most in need.
The ultimate aim is to light a spark and empower anyone working with children to feel comfortable delivering outdoor sessions themselves. I will be there throughout the year liaising, training, collating and producing any materials needed. It will be an ongoing collaboration.
I am presently volunteering at the Forest Gate Community Garden, holding Nature Detective sessions every Saturday morning, all are welcome. Please come along to find out what it's all about and have a chat.
Update Feb 2023
40+ workshops have been delivered for children at Earlham Primary school, Forest Gate community garden, Magpie project and Up Garden.
