Description
Generationz in Style is a creative intergenerational project which aims to bring young people together with their older neighbours across Maryland and Forest Gate through sustainable fashion and textiles. The project uses clothing upcycling workshops to:
To promote environmental sustainability by rducing textile waste and raising awareness of the climate impact of fast fashion
Encourage young people's creativity and skill development through design, sewing and intrepreneurship
Strengthen intergenerational connections by providing opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and sharing learning. The project will culmunate in a unique sustainable fashion event that aims to showcase the power of reuse and highlight the importance of adopting circular economy practices and approaches.

Hello. I couldn’t get to the voting event yesterday so I’m asking the same questions what I’d ask in person – what is the money being spent on? As in a rough breakdown as I want to know what I will actually get for my vote? Where is it happening?

@Jay Smith Thank you so much for checking out on our project. We are using the money to hire a venue to operate the project from, running workshops, staffing, equipment including sewing machines, insurance, training. We also plan to hold a community event which will bring togther many other upcycling initiatives to showcase their work. I hope this answers your question.

@Vicky Remmie Thank you for answering as most other projects havent or they have but not actually answered the questions I even asked. I have some follow up questions.
1. Which venue will this be at? 2. I would like rough figures for venue costs vs staff costs vs training costs vs equipment costs vs insurance costs vs community event costs so just 6 numbers. 3. How many workshops will there be?

@Jay Smith The project will run for up 12 months at a venue which is still being negotiated in Maryland E15. We are looking at Cart&Horses which is aroung £60-£80 per hour or the Methodist Hall which is £45/hr. We will hiring the venue for 8hrs per month. Our plan is to run 12 workshops in a year. We also plan to hold an showcase at Stratford Town Hall and hiring this venue alone can cost up to £3500 per 3-6 hrs of use. Almost a chunk of the budget goes towards venue hire as there are no free community centres in more.

@Vicky Remmie Thank you very for replying. I sympathise about the community centres, they have been a great loss. I do understand why you are spending what you are spending and your project seems really interesting but £1300 per workshop is extremely high as is having a showcase event at £3500. That showcase should probably in Forest Gate and Maryland ward, no?
If you get funding, what will happen to all the sewing machines and equipment after 2026 seeing as you probably won't be able to afford a venue after that point?

@Jay Smith We have a sustainabilty strategy built into our overall project for 2026 and beyond, FYI we are running an ongoing youth programme in various parts of Newham and we intend to use the equipment to support our other community projects. @Susanne Rauprich Thank for liking our idea. The money will be spend on hiring premises, buying sewing machines including facilitators torun the workshops. The highest cost is premises as there are no free community centres in Newham.
