Enchanted Forest Mural involving local youth and artist - fly tipping deterrent

From "Forest Gate & Maryland Community Assemblies 2022"

Go to the project

The project is designed to prevent fly tipping, be an attractive feature of the area and get local secondary school children involved in the community.

A local artist will paint a gate leading to an enchanted forest on the wall where Upton Lane meets Chaucer Road (a fly tipping hot spot). Local youth will paint flowers in the foreground. The mural will be a clear representation of Forest Gate and a reminder to take pride in our area and not to leave rubbish on the pavement.

The mural will be bright and colourful to make it a stand out feature of the area that people would notice when walking or driving down Upton Lane.

The budget is £2500.

We need help. I have never seen this level of flytipping anywhere else in London. This part of Forest Gate feels very much forgotten, and flytipping and other anti-social behaviours such as littering, splitting, and drag-taking are rife. These behaviours and environment make residents feel unsafe, substantially impacting people's mental health and morals. So please show some love to South Forest Gate by supporting this project!

@Makiko Aoki thanks for your support Makiko. I completely agree - it's like a permanent dump! Not a day goes by where there isn't rubbish left on the pavement at this junction and it's usually heaps and heaps of it - from bin bags to big household objects all piled on top of each other. Living in what is effectively a dump really does affect your mental health and it makes people feel that anti-social behaviour is acceptable. We definitely need to turn this forgotten part of Forest Gate into somewhere people can be proud to live in.
