Don't know if anyone from newham council is reading this but there are too many similar projects. There is :-
1 ) Radha Krishna social club for elderly Hindus at one of their temples - yoga, discussions
2) Milap social club for elderly Hindu women - yoga, exercise, music, outings
3) Companions social club for elderly Muslims at their mosque - exercise, health discussions, hot meals
4 ) Silver Connections social club for elderly Asian women at the library - yoga, hot meals
5) Stay Strong Stay Young strength classes for elderly people at the library - exercise, health discussions, cultural activities
6) Seniors Got Talent creative workshops for elderly people - health discussions, music, art
How is the council going to ensure that nearly one quarter of the funding won't be spent on 6 similar projects? And like every year there are multiple greening projects too (7).

@Jay Smith Hi Jay, I visited last Friday and it is a self-funded group by the owner who prepares freshly cooked meals for the elderly residents living in the accommodation who have disability / access issues in terms of engaging in any community activity elsewhere, the owner of Milaap group self-funds and is seeking funding to be able to sustain viability. These happen from what I’m aware every Fri from 12 to 2. It’s quite simple, it is a lunch prepared at the venue and the costs would be to cover the expenses for ingredients. As for it being exclusively for ‘Hindu’ I think quite simply this is down to a limitation in wording, it’s ran for the elderly and members are not exclusively from this diaspora, ultimately they are limited with their ability to reach any other target audience and so deliver to those who they managed to establish contact with at inception, at that time it was this specific demographic. The group being serviced are almost all nearly above 70 with mild accessibility and mobility issues.

@Ismaeel Khan Thank you for these answers, where is the accommodation and is that where this group is going to take place?

@Jay Smith Hi Jay, the accommodation itself is the ‘Hamara Ghar Sheltered Housing Scheme’ it is an apartment complex within the Queens square, parallel to the Queens Market and is visible on a google maps level. The activity takes places on the second floor kitchen space where residents gather and engage in a range of activities, dancing, singing, yoga and conclude with a freshly prepared and warm cooked meal.

@Jay Smith Sorry the amount has popped up now it wasn't there before. What is the £4999 being spent on?
Where are these sessions going to take place? How many sessions? How many places at each session? Is it just for elderly Hindu women?

@Jay Smith I would still like to know these answers. I'm not going to give my vote to anyone who can't or won't explain how my money will be spent, or anwer these questions about what the project actually is.

I love this idea and would happily support by arranging activities or just tea and a chat at the Forest Gate Community Garden. Good luck !
