Description

Introduction

This series of four workshops will provide a creative environment for local people to creatively explore the world of sound art, electronic music and circuit building. Participants will be able construct their own simple synth and customise it into a unique handmade electronic instrument.

The sessions will be open to anyone interested in creatively experimenting with sound, from curious beginners to experienced sound artists or musicians looking to develop new techniques. Participants will be able to develop their own personal ideas while also working together collectively with others in the community. The workshops will be facilitated by experienced sound artists who can provide both creative and technical support and guidance throughout. All necessary equipment and materials will be provided.

At the end of each session, everyone will have the opportunity to present their work and receive supportive and constructive feedback from the group. After the workshops they will be able to take away any instruments they create during the workshops to further explore and play in their own time.

These sound art workshops are intended to foster and cultivate creativity and self-expression, offering a space for building connections within the community while also encouraging local talent. By creating a platform for artistic experimentation and teamwork, these workshops not only add to the cultural richness of the region but also play a role in empowering individuals along their artistic path.

Health and Wellbeing

Engaging in hands-on creativity can significantly enhance the mental and emotional well-being of individuals. As participants immerse themselves in these activities, an alleviation of stress and an uplift in mood occurs. This positive transformation is magnified when people collaboratively partake in the creative process, fostering a sense of unity and shared accomplishment. The satisfaction of personal achievement coupled with the joy of community involvement is beneficial to the mental heath of those involved.

Developing skills

The skills learned in the sessions will be useful for the development of artists and musicians, and the general experience of problem solving, cooperative working and creative thinking will benefit anyone.

Further Opportunities

Participants will have the opportunity to progress and extend their involvement by exploring potential collaborations with other artists, venues, and organisations. We will work with Community Arts Newham to explore any possibilities for workshop attendees to engage in upcoming local exhibitions and collaborative performances.
