Creative Carpenters

The Creative Carpenters project builds and scales up an existing set of programming in our local community space, The Dovetail. There are three types of activities included in our resident led proposal:

1. Ongoing weekly adult art workshops term time only

2. Children’s art and wellbeing sessions in school holidays

3. A monthly art café combing creative activities with an opportunity for a conversation hub at The Dovetail

Adult and children’s workshops

These will be focused sessions across a range of medium giving residents the opportunity to learn new creative skills, meet and socialise with each other and create artwork that expresses their current experience of health and wellbeing.

Art Cafe

The idea is to run a monthly art café for adults. They will have a theme associated to health & wellbeing.

There will be different activities for different groups; over 50s, over 18 and young children making it accessible to residents on and around the estate.

There will be set themes relating to health and wellbeing, can encourage them to express themselves in a safe and supporting environment with like-minded people.There will be two facilitators teaching adults and children respectively.

Eg. The elderly would enjoy life drawing over tea & cakes.

The teenagers would have printmaking sessions teaching how to design & customise T-Shirts for instance session teaching. Children over 5 years will have arts & Crafts learning the basics of creating art for fun; card making & collage art, not just playdough.

All will have opportunity to experience location drawing which will improve their;

Physical - location walk and draw sessions

Intellectual - learn a positive way to improve and promote positive mental health.

Emotional - a safe and therapeutic outlet for expressionism.

Social, Health and wellbeing with an exhibition at the end celebrating their hard work.
