Description

Social Convention currently offers a range of opportunities to socialise and enjoy music, comedy, cabaret and more.

We are a community and culture venue in Custom House & Canning Town that opened in October 2022. We exist to provide a safe space for the community in Newham, with a focus on providing creative opportunities for the whole community and development opportunities for underrepresented creative professionals to build a career (especially LGBTQ+, BAME and lower socio-economic backgrounds).

We want to launch a programme of activities that are complementary to our events programme and that will improve both the health and wellbeing and the employability of adults and young people in the area.

CREATEPLUS will offer...

Fortnightly creative activities to promote wellbeing:

  • Drama club
  • Art class
  • Community choir

Fortnightly employability workshops to promote sustainable employment:

  • Event Management
  • Barista training
  • Hospitality service skills

The hospitality industry is one of the largest employers and skilled employees are in short supply, especially in London.

Open to young and old (16+), new connections will be made across Custom House & Canning Town.  Specialist activities for older, younger or other specific groups are highly valuable, but opportunities to bridge these divides are also important in building communities' wealth, resilience and empowerment.

Social Convention has extensive experience delivering creative activities. We will work with local artists and workshop leaders in our local creative network to deliver the fortnightly Pay What You Can fortnightly workshops. As well as Event Management workshops with our in-house production and event management team.

The hospitality training will be delivered by Academy Hospitality, whose mission is to empower people with the hands-on training they need to thrive in the bustling hospitality industry. At the Academy, it's not just about learning the art and science of beverages; it's about mastering the intricate dance of customer service, understanding the dynamics of a fast-paced work environment, and building resilience and confidence.

CREATEPLUS is your opportunity to socialise, meet new people, get creative and even get a start in a hospitality or creative career.
