Create at The Gate

From "Forest Gate & Maryland Community Assemblies 2022"

Go to the project

Create at The Gate is an arts educational programme for adults taking place at The Gate Library.

The project aims to make best use of existing community spaces, bringing life, vitality and creativity to the Library again, in the wake of Local Government cuts to arts activities and the legacy of Covid 19.

Consisting of weekly art classes, over three eight-week courses, themes will address each of the three local priorities as outlined by the Citizen’s Assemblies. Participants will develop learning and awareness of each of the local priorities by exploring their own personal creative responses. The project will conclude with a celebratory exhibition at The Gate Library.

Course 1 – Nature and Biodiversity: We will use the Forest Gate Community garden as a resource to inspire our paintings of local wildlife.

Course 2 – Recycling/Collage: Creating arts and crafts exclusively from household recycling

Course 3 – Loving our Locality: Celebrating the best of Forest gate and Maryland through drawing and painting

    Having taken part in Eleanor's art workshops, I can vouch for how beneficial they are. Not only are they enjoyable but also great for mental wellbeing. Sessions connects individual in a safe, warm and creative environment. The themes sound perfect for post - covid recovery as many people (especially elderly) experienced isolation. The Gate Library and Community Garden are perfect hubs for these valuable sessions. Looking forward to this going through - All the best!
      @Shofa Miah Thanks Shofa!
