Weekly healthy-eating recipe packs for young people around Abbey Lane/Bisson Road will form phase one of our project aiming to address the health and well-being priority. As a local church passionate about seeing our whole community thrive we will build on existing relationships and reach out to other local young people (10-18 year olds) from a diverse range of backgrounds. We will deliver packs each week and create video tutorials so they can cook these meals at home for their families, developing skills and knowledge in food preparation, budgeting and health. Fortnightly catch ups together will grow community and a wider sense of well-being.
This will lead into phase two of the project; engaging the young people in growing their own food through building planters in reclaimed disused space and other green spaces in the local area. Young people will gain skills in construction and gardening and we hope these will also create long term positive change to the local environment.
We aim to address issues around health inequality; showing young people and families routes towards healthier eating and sustainability, whilst also promoting mental health and challenging the toxic diet culture that particularly impacts young girls and women.
