Description

In Newham, there are very few opportunities for young people with disabilities once they leave school. Too often, these longstanding residents of our community with so much to offer, are overlooked and left without meaningful pathways into work or independence.

Bridget's: Building Brighter Futures aims to change that. Based at Bridgets Café in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, our 12-week training programme gives post-school students with additional needs the chance to gain real work experience in a supportive, inclusive environment. Students learn every part of running a café - from customer service and food preparation to teamwork, money handling, and health and safety. Along the way, they build confidence, develop communication skills, and take positive steps towards employment.

Earlier this year, we successfully ran the programme with JFK School, and it was described as “life-changing” by staff and families.

With support, we can continue and expand Bridgets: Building Pathways to shine a light on young people who deserve more opportunities, ensuring that Newham becomes a place where all residents are able to grow, contribute, and thrive.
