Beckton Fit, Green and Clean Project

Beckton Environmental Action Team (BEAT) are a team of committed and passionate residents whose aim is to bring about positive change in Beckton by taking a proactive role in tackling environmental issues affecting the community.

Are you:

·      Fed up with the constant fly tipping and littering ?

·      In total admiration for the residents Brian and Pam who have transformed Itchycoo Park and would like to support them ?

·      Interested in finding out more about how to protect Beckton’s wildlife?

·      Community spirited and would like to make new friends?

If the answer to any of these questions is YES then please vote for our project whose focus will be to improve residents health and well-being and Beckton green spaces through a variety of FREE community engagement activities that will take place at various times throughout the year, to include:

Itchycoo Park

Establishment of a team of volunteers to help with community gardening and maintenance at Itchycoo Park.

Nature and arts and crafts activities.

Grow your own fruit and vegetable workshops.

Littering and Fly tipping

Schools engagement project on littering and fly tipping education to include a competition to design anti-littering and “Keep Beckton Tidy” posters or art signage.

Production of winning posters or art signage will be produced for display in the community.

Community Litter Picks / Litter Pick Walks

Wildlife Protection & Education

Educational activities on the effect littering and inappropriate feeding has on the environment and our wildlife.

Establishment of a team of volunteers to look after and give regular, appropriate feeds to the waterfowl and birds at North Beckton Park.

Community Events

"Big Lunch" Event in June 2024 for all Beckton Residents which will showcase the project and encourage further community involvement.

Rewards events/activities for Volunteers who have taken part in at least 25 volunteering sessions by July 2024.

End of project celebration event December 2024

 We are proposing this project in Beckton for the following reasons:

·      We are fed up with the constant fly tipping and littering and we would like to do something positive to support the work of LBN and help inform and engage residents to reduce this.

·      Residents Brian and Pam cannot continue to do all of the work maintaining Itchycoo Park on their own. If they stop maintaining the park it will quickly revert to its former swamp-like state. As a community we need to come together to support and ensure the continued existence of Itchycoo.

·      Following the recent fox abuse incidents in Beckton and a series of wildlife and waterfowl accidents and injuries caused by careless littering and irresponsible fishing we feel it is important to act to educate residents and park users about this and work together to protect and care for Beckton’s wildlife.

We look forward to delivering a variety of activities that are accessible, fun, productive and beneficial for Beckton and it’s residents which will help bring the community together as a whole.
