Becoming Belonging

From "People Powered Forest Gate & Maryland - Finished"

Go to the project

Proposed budget

GBP 5,000

Description

Becoming Belonging will spread awareness of how our emotional states impact our health, just as diet and exercise do. It will highlight how trauma lives in our bodies, and the need for body-based ways to work with it.

It meets all three of the ward’s priorities:

·        Health and well-being (as seen in the ACEs study, stored trauma increases the risk of many health conditions like diabetes and heart disease)

·        Participation (because our nervous system state, often a result of stored trauma, will affect how able we are to participate)

·        Safety (because stored trauma can affect how safe we feel, and also how safe we can be for others)

Becoming Belonging will distribute simple practices and prompts to residents in easy-to-digest, bite-size pieces, over the course of the year.

The cards will invite residents to pause and slow down, and experience a moment of connecting with themselves. It will also invite them to return to the material, repeating the experience, over and over again.

Cards will also be available in community hubs like Forest Gate Library.

Residents will be invited to offer their experiences of the project at the Becoming Belonging website, which will also host more information and resources.

@Jay Smith Sorry the amount's popped up now, it wasn't there when I asked. What's this £5000 being spent on? A website and how many flyers? What happens to the website when the funding ends? Doesnt this ward have 40000 residents? So say thats 16000 households, how are you going to deliver flyers to 16000 households multiple times?
@Jay Smith Hi Jay, apologies - I did not see these comments until now. This is how I have budgeted the £5000 : £4153 for the cards ( £250 graphic design + £3903 for the printing as quoted by the printers; this is for 6 x 1000 - so no, this will not cover all residents of Forest Gate) £392 for website hosting, domain name etc (budgeted so that hosting is covered for 3 years, so that the website can remain as a resource for that time) £330 for the public liability insurance which is a requirement by the council for every project £125 for the fee for the organisation used by the council to bank the funds So I would be distributing 1000 cards six times over the course of the year. I hope this is helpful.

@Gwen Rahardja Thank you yes it is very helpful. Just want to know if its 1000 residents who get 6 different cards, or 6000 residents who get 1 card? Whether its 1000 or 6000 residents, how are you choosing which residents get them?
@Jay Smith My intention had been for 1000 residents to get the full 'series' of 6, but I was also going to try to randomise the distribution (but pick a narrowed down area), and also leave some of the cards in community hubs, and also places like GP practices where people are community-facing in their work, so between chance and human error, it may look a bit more like a couple of thousand residents / community workers and volunteers getting anywhere between 1-6 cards each. I'm interested to know though whether you (and anyone else interested in giving me feedback) think I should do the former (1000 residents getting 6 cards each), or the latter (6000 residents getting 1 card each)? The content is different on each card and to keep it accessible to people who may have vision issues or not speak English well, I also wanted it to be in as few words as possible, while still giving an experience of understanding the concept on each. My intention also was that with each card I am asking for only a tiny amount of time and effort from each resident, for them to do the practice.
@Jay Smith thank you by the way for the questions and the comments, that you have been leaving with all the projects, not just mine - I have found them useful, and wish people voting could see our full application forms with all the details on it. Are you on the working party? I feel like you should be if you aren't!
