Description
School 360 is a new school in E15. Our new building is eco-friendly, but the grounds were designed using a large amount of concrete, and very little green play space for the children. We have used our funding to develop the school grounds as a resource for children, families and the community. We have created a growing and playing space that children and families can enjoy and that are available for community volunteers to develop in the long term. This has involved making changes to the grounds to remove concrete surfaces and allow for planting.
We have included:
1 Green wall, using climbing plants, to improve the air quality
2 Wildflower garden to attract pollinating insects
3 Wild/ natural play area including long grass and fallen trees
4 Planting areas to grow food
5 Water butt to catch rainwater
6 Chicken coop and chickens
7 Outdoor toilet
8 Mini orchard
This has transformed the playground area into a wildlife haven, suitable for play and for growing. We have involved children, parents and volunteers in growing the plants and trees. We have secured funding to open the playground on Saturdays as a Community Garden where people can meet, play, grow and share food. The food can be shared with the community via our weekly food bank.
