10 More Trees

From "Manor Park Community Assemblies 2022"

Go to the project

This proposal aims to fund the planting of 10 street trees in Manor Park.

Work is already taking place to map the location of existing tree pits in the locality and new trees are beginning to appear, but with so many trees lost and not replaced along our streets, and the increased knowledge of the numerous benefits of urban trees, we need to do more!

The Council specifies a budget of £500 to cover the planting of one tree in an existing tree pit, including associated costs; this proposal is a request to fund the planting of 10 more trees in Manor Park, focusing on the most polluted part of the area, Romford Road.

I probably don’t need to emphasise the infinite and well researched benefits of trees as part of the healthy infrastructure of a busy, urban environment like Manor Park. Fundamentally, trees give us the air we breathe, and in highly polluted areas, trees are proven to be a sustainable way to ensure cleaner air. The planting initiative needs to be ongoing, and requires dedicated funds to ensure the increase of street trees remains one of the highest priorities in the efforts to improve the locality for everyone.

Definitely want to see more trees on the streets in Manor Park. Strongly support this and would like to see more funding available for tree planting across the area.

So many areas of Manor Park desperately need more trees so strongly support this proposal. If I could assign it a higher budget for more trees I would.

The local streets always look more attractive with planters and suitable trees. However, it is important to ensure that the council are choosing trees which are suitable for the space available i.e., NOT planting anymore sycamore trees which grow into giants causing all sorts of problems for surrounding homes and buildings.
This is not only a good proposal, it's a necessary step in protecting & enhancing the people in this community's mental and physical health. The area suffers really high levels of pollution from Romford Road and Manor Park's families would really benefit.

It’s just so sad and wrong that people are having to bid for money to get the Council to plant some trees and keep them alive. The Council are legally responsible for making our environment healthier, greener and less polluted, and they should be doing this. Instead they allow tree pits to be tarmacked over willy nilly and then expect residents to pick up the pieces. It is quite shocking really.

Great ideas but I’d go see the dead ones in plaistow park the council have planted as no one had watered them…10 trees, 5 dead already.

@Karen Webb Green That’s really bad. Surely the council’s parks team should be watering the trees they have planted in any park.

@Alan West Maybe ask if you can have the ones left in plaistow and look after them better.

@Karen Webb Green I feel that in making this proposal, I am asking for money to be ring fenced for planting in Manor Park. This proposal also represents a commitment from community members in work alongside the council to ensure, not only are trees planted, but that they are maintained!! I totally agree that the council should be taking on this responsibility. But with resources as stretched as ever, I just want to see this happen and make sure that the communities that the council represents are involved in keeping up the planting and maintaining of trees as a priority.

I agree whole heartedly with this proposal. With lots of families living in ManorPark, it is so important that we try to reduce pollution levels particularly for children growing up in the area.

As has been outlined in the proposal, there are many benefits to having more trees, not only do they provide a much nicer looking environment, they help provide better air quality and now with rising temperatures trees are one of the best ways of helping keep temperatures lower.

This would make the area so much nicer! Helping reduce pollution, making streets look attractive and attracting wildlife. The streets that do have trees and planting making the area feel safer and loved, and trees are lower maintenance than planting beds.
